특수강은 산업사회의 필수적인 원자재로서 대한민국이 현재와 같이 자동차, 조선, 핸드폰 등에서 세계적인 최고의 경쟁력을 갖추는데 있어 특수강이 중요한 역할을 하고 있다. 우리가 일상생활에서 사용하는 자동차의 경우 초창기에는 내구연한이 약하여 오래되지 않았음에도 불구하고 쉽게 엔진, 기어, 크랭크샤후드 등이 쉽게 마모되고 고장이 잦았으며, 엔진오일도 자주 갈아주어야 하는 불편이 있었으나 현재는 그러한 현상을 기술력이 발전하여 소비자의 불편이 많이 해소되었다. 이러한 것이 바로 대한민국 특수강의 발전이라고 보면 될 것이라 생각한다. 이런 발전 가운데 30여 년 간을 특수강 사업에 종사하면서 대한민국 특수강 산업을 이끌어온 이가 바로 대일특수강 이의현 대표이다. 본지는 국내 최고의 특수강 회사를 이끌고 있는 이의현 대표를 만나 대한민국 특수강의 현주소와 경제의 흐름에 대해 알아보았다.

¤ 오랜 기간 기업을 이끌어 올 수 있었던 원동력이 있다면 무엇이 있습니까?

욕심을 버리고 자신의 능력을 누구보다 가장 잘 알았기 때문이 아닌가 합니다. 물론 개인적인 야망과 욕심은 누구나 다 있습니다. 그러나 그것은 어디까지나 분수를 모르고 모든 것을 주관적으로 생각하며, 모든 대내·외 상황이 자신에게 유리하게 작용할 것이라는 우를 범하기 때문이 아닐까합니다. 그러나 저는 제 자신의 능력과 항상 미래를 대비하는 자세로 당장은 조금은 손실을 감수하더라도 고객의 입장에서 생각하고, 만약 내가 고객이라도 대일특수강의 제품은 품질과 서비스가 우수하기 때문에 구입할 수밖에 없다는 판단이 서야 된다고 생각하고 행동하였습니다.

¤ 현재 어떤 제품(대표적)을 생산하고 있으며, 어떤 곳에 쓰이는지 말씀 부탁드립니다.

대일특수강(www.idaeil.co.kr)의 대표적인 제품으로는 합금공구강(STD-11, STD-61), 고속도공구강(SKH-9, SKH-55), 기계구조용 탄소강(SM45C),구조용합금강(SCM-4, SCM-21, SUJ-2, SACM-1)등이 있으며, 이 제품들의 용도로는 STD-11 은 성형로라, 냉간금형, 슬리팅나이프 재료로 사용되고, STD-61은 다이케스팅금형, 압출금형, 열간금형재료로 사용, STF-4M은 단조금형재료로 사용, SKH-9 재료는 절삭공구, 드릴밀링 캇타, SKH-55 재료는 고속도절삭공구로 사용되고, SM45C 재료는 몽키스페나 스파너, 볼트 낫트, 크랑크축 핀, SCM-4 재료는 차축, 축류, 볼트 재료로 사용되고, SCM-21 재료는 치차류ㅡ 샤우드, 크랑크샤우드, 피스톤 핀 소재로 사용되고, SUJ-2재료는 볼베아링, 롤러베아링으로 사용되며 SACM-1 소재는 실린터 축 기어로 사용되고 있습니다. 대일특수강의 가장 비중이 높은 주력제품은 합금공구강을 주력제품으로 생산하고 있습니다.

¤ 대일특수강만의 기술력과 노하우에 대해 말씀 부탁드립니다.

대일특수강은 단순히 소재를 생산, 판매하는 차원을 넘어 고객사의 작업공정과 제품의 흐름을 파악하여 고객사의 효율과 생산성 향상에 고객과 함께 논의하면서 대일특수강이 고객사를 위하여 기여할 수 있는 방향이 무엇인지를 지속적으로 찾아 단순히 제품을 공급하는 차원을 넘어 생산 및 공장경영 컨설팅까지 함께하여, 기존의 경쟁회사와는 전혀 다른 차원의 영업방식을 취하여 대일특수강 제품을 사용한 고객들이 품질의 우수성과 지속적인 거래를 통하여 물품 거래 이외 고객기업이 부가적으로 얻어가는 가치를 증진시켜 경쟁사에서 취득할 수 없는 기업경영의 컨설팅을 제공함으로써 한번 거래를 하던 협력업체는 이탈기업이 없이 지속적인 거래를 유지한다는 장점이 있습니다.

¤ 현 정부가 창조경제라는 화두를 제시하고 있다. 박근혜 대통령과 동문의 경영인으로서

창조경제란 무엇이라 생각하고 어떤 창조경영을 이끌고 계시는지?

이제는 혼자가 아닌 융복합경영이 필요한 시점이며, 창조경영이라는 것이 뭔가를 새롭게 아이디어를 구상하여 내놓는 것도 중요하지만 다른 분야에서 이미 사용하고 있는 것을 자사의 제품과 결합하여 전혀 다른 혁신적인 제품이나 서비스로 발전시키려는 노력이 필요한 시점이라는 것입니다.

기업에 종사하고 있는 전 구성원은 이제 특정한 한 사람만이 경영을 책임지는 상황이 아니라 전 구성원 한 사람 한 사람이 자신이 경영을 책임지고 있는 자세로 임하지 않으면 어려운 상황으로 변화되고 있다. 즉 구성원 모두 나 자신이 기업의 경영자라는 의식 변화가 필요한 시점이며, 단지 그 역할이 각자 주어진 분야가 다를 뿐이다.

¤ 국내를 대표하는 기업인으로서 현 정부에 바라는 점이 있다면?

현 정부도 큰 틀에서 바라보며 기업하기 좋은 환경에 좀 더 관심을 가져주었으면 한다. 물론 저소득층이나 소외된 노동자들의 편에서 법과 제도를 정비하는 것을 나쁘다고는 할 수 없다. 그러나 기업들도 이제는 과거보다는 근로자와 국민과 함께 성장발전하고 지속경영을 하기 위하여서는 근로자의 편에서 의사결정을 하며, 소비자의 의견을 적극적으로 반영하여 소비자들의 불편을 최소화하고자 노력하며, 기업경영도 과거와 달라지려고 많은 노력을 하고 있다. 국가의 법령을 집행하는 기관들도 단속이나 처벌위주가 아닌 계도와 선도의 방향으로 법집행을 하여간다면 지금보다는 좀 더 기업하기 좋은 환경이 되지 않을까 생각한다. 지금까지 정부가 만들어낸 일자리는 복지차원의 단순한 업무나 사회적 소외된 사람들의 단순한 일자리 외에 지속적으로 성장하며 발전할 수 있는 일자리가 얼마나 되는가를 되돌아봐야 할 시점이라 생각하며, 결국 지속적인 일자리는 기업인들이 스스로 만들어 갈 수 있는 분위기 조성에 관심을 가져주었으면 한다.

¤ 경영인으로서의 역할에 충실하시면서 중앙대학교 산업창업경영대학원의 교수를 겸하고 계시는데, 후학들에게 가장 중요시 강의하는 것들이 있다면?

기본을 올바르게 배워두지 않으면 응용력에 한계가 있기 때문에 짧은 시간에 다양한 사례를 들어가면서 강의하고 있다. 현장에서는 학교에서 배운 지식과 정보를 현장상황에 적절히 활용하고, 학교를 떠나서도 항상 배운다는 평생교육의 자세를 가져야하며, 무엇보다 소비자의 마음을 읽을 줄 알고 산업기술의 발전흐름을 예의 주시하며 먼저 생각하고, 연구하여 실행할 수 있는 능력을 갖추지 않으면 언제든지 성장의 대열에서 낙오되기 마련이다. 경쟁사회에서는 이등은 설자리가 없다. 오로지 제품이나 서비스는 일등만이 생존 가능한 것이다. 그렇기 때문에 하루하루를 발전시켜나가야 하고 배우려고 노력하지 않고, 메모하기를 게을리 한다면 반드시 어려운 경우를 부닥치게 될 것이다. 그래서 평생 공부하는 자세로 노력해야한다고 강조하고 있다.

¤ 많은 저서들을 출간하셨다. 종류도 다양한 것으로 알고 있는데 저서를 펴내면서 사회에 어떤 역할을 맡고 싶으셨는가?

제가 현장과 학교에서 느끼고 공부한 내용들을 정리하여 대학의 전공서적과 일반인들이 쉽게 잃을 수 있는 서적을 지속적으로 출간하는 이유는 혼자생각하고 접어두기는 너무 아깝고 많은 사람들과 공유한다면 그만큼 사회가 밝아지고, 삶의 가치를 함께 공유할 것이라 생각하고 있기 때문입니다.

¤ 향후 경영인으로서 그리고 후배들을 가르치는 교수로서 창업을 꿈꾸거나 새롭게 사회생활을 시작하는 이들에게 한마디 말씀 부탁드립니다.

오늘의 대한민국이 국제경쟁력을 갖춘 국가가 될 수 있도록 만든 것은 기업가정신을 가진 기업인들이 있었기에 가능하였던 것이다. 기업가정신이 우리나라를 살려냈으며, 과학기술을 기업가들이 발전 시켰기에 가능하였다고 말할 수 있다. 정부 관료조직이 행정적으로 이를 뒷받침해주었기 때문이기도 하고, 물론 일부 부패한 관료들이 있었으나 기업가정신을 가진 사기업가들이 이것을 잘 극복해 왔다. 미래의 경영환경은 가능성 있는 것을 포기하고 오로지 확실한 것에 과도하게 투자한 기업은 실패하고 말 것이다. 대학을 졸업하고 대기업이나 안전하다는 공무원시험을 준비하는 사회 새내기들도 모험을 거부하고 안전한 것만 추구하며 위험을 회피하기만 한다면, 자신들이 생각하는 더 많은 보상과 확실한 미래는 여러분의 기대를 채워줄 수 없을 것이다. 미래는 위험을 감수하며 이를 극복한 사람이 쟁취하는 것이다.

Special Steel is, as an essential raw material of industrial society, has an important role in having the world’s best competitive edge in the field of car, shipbuilding, cell phone, etc as is the current state of the Republic of Korea. In the case of cars which we use in our daily lives, it breakdowns frequently and its engines, gears, cranks easily have been worn in its early days although it doesn't long last as the longest life is weak, and it was inconvenient to have to change the engine oil, but a lot of those inconveniences of the consumers has been solved by the development of technology for such phenomena, which is considered as the very Republic of Korea's development of special steel, I tink. Among these developments, there has been a CEO of Daeil Special Steel Co. Ltd who has been leading Special Steel Industry of Republic of Korea, working in the same industry for 30 years. Our magazine met CEO Lee having been leading the nation's top special steel company and has been talking about current status of special steel of the Republic of Korea and the flow of the economy.

What are the driving force to have lead the company for a long time if any?

I have had the driving force to lead the firm because I have better known my ability than anyone else, abandoning greedy. Of course, everyone has a personal ambition and greed. But, it fails to know oneself, a subjective notion, and due to making those errors that all inward and external conditions are favorable to him or her, I think. However, I, with my ability and the attitude to prepare for the future, have been thinking on the part of customers, even taking a bit of loss right now, that If I was a customer I have to take the measure of

I want you to tell me your typical products and their use.

The representative products of Daeil Special Steel(www.idaeil.co.kr) are the alloy tool steel(STD-11, STD-61), high speed tool steel(SKH-9, SKH-55), machine structural carbon steel(SM45C), structural alloy steel(SCM-4, SCM-21, SUJ-2, SACM-1) etc, in the use of which products, STD-11 is used for materials of molding rolller, Cold die, and slitting knives, and STD-61 is used for the materials of Die casting mold, extrusion mold, and Hot Die, and STF-4M is for forging mold materials, SKH-9 materials for a cutting tool, drill milling cutters, and SKH-55 materials for high-speed cutting tool, SM45C materials for monkey spanner, spanner, bolt & nut, and crank shaft pin, and SCM-4 materials for Axle, Axial, and bolt material, and SCM-21 materials for materials of gears - shaft, crankshaft, and piston pin, and SUJ-2 materials for

As a businessman representing the country If there is anything you hope towards current government, what is it?

I want the current government to have more interested in a good environment to do business, looking at the big picture. The maintenance of law and institutions on behalf of low-income people and disadvantaged workers is not bad of course. To grow and develop with workers and the public and continue to run the firms rather than the past management, the companies try to minimize the inconveniences of consumers by making decisions on the part of workers, reflecting the opinions of consumers actively, and companies has a lot of efforts for business management different from the past. If the institutions of the state to enforce laws administers the law in the direction of guidance or playing a leading role rather than the enforcement or punishment-oriented law enforcement, there would be a good environment to run business, in my opinion. I think this is the time to look back how many jobs there are the government created to continue growing and developing except simple tasks at the level of welfare or simple jobs of socially excluded people, and eventually about sustainable jobs, he wants the firms to create an atmosphere for their interest in making jobs by themselves.

As you are combining the professor of Industry Foundation Business School of Chungang University, being faithful to your role as a businessman, If there is the most important lesson to your juniors?

If you do not learn the basics correctly, there is a limit to the application ability, so he has been teaching a variety of cases in a short time. In the field, you should have the proper utilization of information and knowledge learned in school, and have an attitude of lifelong learning to always learn even after leaving school, above all, you should know how to read the mind of the consumer, closely monitor the flow of the development of industrial technology, think & study in advance, and furnish the ability to run, or not you are bound to be left behind in the ranks of the growth at any time. In the competitive world is there no place for a second to stand. Only first class will be viable only in the field of products or services. Therefore, you should

develop every day, or if you don't try to learn and neglect to note, you will experience the difficult. So you should strive with an attitude of life-long study.

I would like you to give advice to people dreaming of establishing company or starting social life as you are a businessman and professor to teach juniors.

What has been making today's Republic of Korea with the international competitiveness is the very Entrepreneurs with entrepreneurship, with which it has been possible. The entrepreneurial spirit has saved our country, which, I can say, has been possible as businessmen has developed the technology. Administrative officials of the government has also given the support administratively, of course there has been some spoiled officials, but businessmen with the entrepreneurial spirit has overcome it well. On the business environment of the future, if you give up the possibility and invest heavily for only sure thing, which company will surely fail. If the beginners in the community who are preparing for civil service exams for safe officials or major firms after graduation refuse adventures and seeking only a safe, and only avoid the risk, more rewarding they are thinking and the positive future can not fill your expectations. The people who accept risk and overcome it achieve the future.
