There are not many chances to show their works and sell the products for people who are working for the design industry. So, most of them are running the online business or open their luggage bag in the street for displaying to sell in the end, however, the reality is harsh. They don¡¯t earn lots of money from it. If someone is sure of the quality of art work, being unique and competitive, but it is hard to find a market, there is CEO Min-Woo Kang of Enter Space, Inc. He must have a key to help someone.

CEO Min-Woo Kang used to run an art academy before and worked as an executive of an investment company a while ago, which is that he has got lots of experienced. Also, he ran a stationary in the street in Hongdae. His stationary store wasn¡¯t different from others in the beginning, but he gradually brought some art stuff of his juniors in art school who had talents but no place to sell their stuff. One of reason he did was because he majored in art, actually. He knew they were working hard but didn¡¯t make money.

Just like that, his store was getting filled of artists¡¯ designed items and it was spread out by mouth to mouth. Finally, the stationary got popular as a store that had a lot of interesting and unique stuff. By that, he was quite encouraged and made ¡®DESIGN FREE MARKET¡¯ as a brand name. After launching, he started the business more specifically and professionally. Afterwards, he could have a good chance and it was he got a call from Hyundai Department store in Joongdong. Someone who was involved there contacted him to make an event. For two days, a designer¡¯s special showcase in the department store has happened and made about 50 million won. Now, his event happens at the Hyundai Department store not even in Joongdong but also Apkujeong and Myeongdong. Besides, sometimes he does the process at Shinsaegyae, Lotte, AK or Square 1 Department store. From the results, ¡®DESIGN FREE MARKET¡¯ made a new leap as a young but seriously and elegant brand.


Discovering business people as young artists from just someone individual in the first place

At first, he made a big success in Joongdong but the profit didn¡¯t come to his pocket. After sharing the money out of selling with artists who made products and the rest of the money went to the tax company. When he was thinking it over, he got help from Hyundai Department Store a lot.

¡°Thanks to Hyundai Department Store, I could educate artists who didn¡¯t know about running the business. Hyundai Department Store gave me a space to teach artists accounting and tax law and they taught a service attitude. Eventually, designers who joined the ¡®DESIGN FREE MARKET¡¯ became an individual business person. Frankly, I was worried about feeing like an employee for the Department Store such as a huge distribution company, but Hyundai Department Store is now my trustful supporter and I feel very lucky¡±. He appreciates that heaps. Currently, the number of designers who are joining the DESIGN FREE MARKET¡¯ is about 200.

It hasn¡¯t been a long time to start the business that the department store, designers and CEO Kang can win-win, but some designers are making lots of money and it might be 100 million won per year. Like this, their sales are getting exploded.


Competitiveness of the ¡®DESIGN FREE MARKET¡¯ is accepted in the other countries

While he was making a great success by selling stuff in the department store, he got another chance. A big shopping center in Hong Kong suggested him to open a shop there. After all, CEO Kang established a local cooperation in there and he is still doing the process so as to let Korean designers know to the world. He feels it is an amazing opportunity. Also, CEO Kang launched a new brand, ¡®Indiebjujewelry¡¯, which is more sophisticated and luxurious rather than products at the DESIGN FREE MARKET, so he is planning to grow the new brand as a Korean prestige brand in the end.


My dream is to contribute for expanding the base of artists

CEO Kang has two massive dreams. One is that he discovers talented artists so as to connect them to the consumers directly and the other is to expand the base of pure art. Due to that reason, he is trying to provide products for cafes as a concept of ¡®shop in shop¡¯. And, basically, he has been dreaming of pure arts all the time, so he ended up moving the offline shop into Seokyo-dong, which became bigger than before.

In the first floor, visitors can look at and touch every item from ¡®DESIGN FREE MARKET¡¯ and enjoy coffees as well. In the second and third floors, it is called a gallery SOYOU. This space is a place for talented artists to be able to show their works and especially, CEO Kang is taking a good care of it. When he was asked about what would be for many junior artists, he answered, ¡°When someone does work, the person should be a professional. If people want to be competitive, it is not enough just making it. I hope someone who wants to show to me, the person must contact me any time¡±. CEO Min-Woo Kang is doing working really hard to aim for finding out Korean best artists who would be world-famous in the future and it is like Korean designer Sang-Bong, Lee is doing trying to let Korea know to the world.
