한국미용 100년사를 집대성하고 새로운 세대들을 밝게 비추다

- 54년 미용인생에 빛나는 송부자뷰티아카데미 송부자 원장 & 마에스트로

지난 11월, 한국 미용입문 54년을 기록한 대가 송부자 원장과 제자들인 마에스트로의 협업 전시회 <비우고, 채우고, 나누고(비채나)>가 2-5일까지 홍익아트센터에서 열렸다. 송 원장은 마에스트로 팀과 1년 3개월에 걸쳐 헤어 아트를 제작하여 <비채나>를 개막했다. 마지막 날인 5일에는 송 원장이 10년간 구상하고 준비한 저서 <한국미용 100년사> 출간을 알리는 행사를 겸해 뜻 깊음을 더했다. 한국미용의 역사를 담은 이 행사에서, 많은 미용인들과 언론인들도 송 원장의 영향력과 노고에 대해 찬사를 아끼지 않았다.

미용의 개념을 넘어서 <비우고, 채우고, 나누는> 예술의 영역으로 향한 인생

서울 태생인 송부자 원장은 전쟁의 상흔으로 60년대 끼니와 학업이 어려웠던 시대에 미용에 입문했다. 송 원장은 6.25 동란에 피난을 가던 중 대구에 정착했고, 금은세공을 하시는 부친과 와세다대 출신인 조부님로부터 열정과 예술 감각을 타고났다. 여성이 고등학교까지 나와도 고학력이던 시절, 현모양처를 꿈꾸던 송 원장도 장녀로서 동생들을 책임져야만 했다. 그래서 조부님으로부터 받은 광고를 보고 찾아간 정화여자고등기술학교에서 화롯불로 아이론을 배웠다. 송 원장은 문하생 기간 4년을 거치고, 미군부대 부근에서 근무하며 서양에서 유행하는 헤어스타일을 시연해 많은 고객을 확보했다. 이윽고 송 원장은 해외에 진출하고 국가적인 인정을 받는 가운데 여느 미용인들도 생각지 못한 작업에 들어간다. 대만, 이탈리아 등 해외에서 출연료 외에도 숙식과 항공료, 모델비를 지원받는 예우를 받는 미용 장인으로서의 임무였다. 교육과 헤어쇼 출연 등 118여회의 출국으로 바쁜 와중에도 시간을 쪼개고 사비를 들여 비디오와 스튜디오 사진 제작 등으로 미용 역사를 남기기 시작했다. 명성이 높아지면서 한 업체에서 강의요청이 들어오고, 반신반의하며 시작한 강의는 문전성시를 이뤘다. 한 매체는 “송부자 원장의 강의는 인파가 밀려 입구 셔터를 내려야 할 정도였다. 입장을 못한 어느 미용인들이 구두를 벗어 두드리는 바람에 셔터가 모두 우그러졌다”고 당시를 설명한다. 성공으로 인한 명성은 연달은 강의요청으로 이어졌고, 송 원장은 6시면 매장 문을 닫고 강의를 나서기 시작한다. 지금은 대가의 이름을 건 프랜차이즈가 일반적이지만, 당시 송 원장은 자신의 이름으로 현직 종사자들에게 노하우를 알리는 것에 집중했다. 그렇기에 송 원장의 제자들 중에는 현직에서 인정받는 베테랑들이 많다. 또한 2006년부터 송 원장은 첫 미용 산학협력으로 송부자 뷰티아카데미에서 대학의 총 140학점 중 105학점을 인정받는 학점은행제를 시작했다. 이 정책은 생업 때문에 시간이 없어 학업을 계속할 수 없는 현직 종사자들을 위한 배려다. 해외 쇼에서도 한국모델들을 등장시키는 국위선양도 잊지 않았다. 송 원장이 호암아트홀에서 개최한 40주년 행사에서, 650석 정원이 모자라 2회로 나누어 입장한 1,500여명의 관객들이 열광한 비결이 여기 있었던 셈이다.

2016년 미용 월드 챔피언십의 한국 개최, 그리고 마에스트로의 예술세계

인터뷰가 진행되기 며칠 전인 11월 초, 한국 미용계에 큰 낭보가 전해졌다. 격년제로 개최되는 OMC(세계미용협회) 헤어월드 챔피언십이 2016년 한국 킨텍스에서 열리게 된 것이다. 송 원장은 “월드 챔피언십은 세계에서 가장 권위 있고 큰 규모의 대회로, 21,22대를 연임한 대한 미용사회 최영희 회장님의 무한한 노력으로 얻어낸 결정체”라고 격찬했다. 이어 “이로 인해 세계 미용인구가 한국에 결집하여 관광 산업 등이 호황을 이루고, 경제발전과 국위선양에 큰 도움이 되니 온 국민이 집중해야 할 때다”라 전하는 송 원장은 1900년대부터 지금까지 한국의 역사와 미용 산업의 연관에 대해 저술하는 대장정을 최근 마쳤다. <한국미용 100년사>는 풍부한 자료와 고증을 바탕으로, 초판이 매진되며 미용사의 큰 획을 그었다는 평가를 받고 있다. 또한 송 원장은 후배 미용인들의 이미지 향상과 “더 이상 올라 갈 곳이 없는 능력자들”인 제자들을 위해, 직접 이름지어준 연합체 <마에스트로>를 주축으로 한 <비채나>를 기획한다. <마에스트로> 과정에 입문하기 위해서는 숙대 경영대학원 최고경영자과정, 업스타일, 업스타일 어드밴스 3과정을 모두 수료해야 한다. 송 원장과 멤버 이미영(마에스트로 회장), 배해용, 박시원, 김지명, 원진옥, 김연민, 배형자 등 전문 헤어 아티스트들의 작품들은 80년대 미용의 대호황을 거친 송 원장의 지식과 후배들의 감성을 합친 50여 점의 예술로 승화한다. 밤샘과 아이디어 회의로 얻어낸 작품들은 예술적 조형 감각의 극한으로 찬탄을 자아내게 한다. “이것이 과연 머리카락인가” 라는 반응이 나올 만큼, 미술의 형식으로 표현한 장인정신의 결정체다. 작품에서는 1933년도 미용인 오엽주 식 기본 웨이브부터, 90년도 이후 자유분방한 스타일을 업그레이드한 송부자 스타일까지 만끽할 수 있다. 그 외에도 연예인들에 따른 시대적 유행, 미래지향적 곡선과 직선의 만남과 찬란한 빛깔이 펼쳐진다. 타이어 등 외부 소재를 활용하여 공간적 감성을 표현한 것도 큰 주목을 받았다. 성공적인 일정을 끝낸 송 원장은 후배들을 위한 30년 강의경력의 열정을 지속할 것이라고 전했다. 선배로서, 선구자로서, 시대를 풍미한 스타일을 만들어내고 동료와 제자들의 존경을 받으며 미용에 전념하는 송 원장의 집념과 사랑은 앞으로도 계속된다.

Director Song Boo Ja born in Seoul entered hairdressing at the time of 1960s when it is very difficult to solve meals and study owing to the scars left by the Korean war. She carried out the mission as a hairdressing craftsman enough to be honored at receiving accommodation, airfare, and model fare in addition to performance fee. Despite her busy schedule such as training disciples, making hair show appearances, etc about 118 times the of international departures, she started to leave hairdressing histories such as videos, studio and photo production etc by slitting time, spending her own money. With her fame being higher, she was asked to lecture, which she started half in doubt, and it had a mass of customers.

At the 50th Anniversary held by Director Song at the Ho-Am Art Hall, 650 seats was lacking to sit on for audience, because of which more than 1,500 audiences had to be divided into two times to enter, on the bases of which director is the person who blew audiences away with his talent and passion, which is the very her Secret.

Hold 2016 Hairdressing World Championship In ROK, and Art World of Maestro
