사랑으로 세상 섬기는 ‘하누리국제학교’

김원동 목사, “비전과 목표 확실한 크리스천 지도자 양성”

21세기 열린교육을 지향하며 일반 국·공립·사립학교와 다른 프로그램으로 국제적 인재를 양성하는 학교가 있어 눈길을 끈다. 2003년 3월 연합교육문화원에서 시작해 이듬해인 2004년 11월에 다윗독서스쿨이란 방과후 학교를 개설해서 지금까지 크리스천 지도자 배출을 위한 교육 프로그램으로 꾸준한 신뢰를 얻고 있는 하누리 국제학교. 2005년 10월 하누리국제학교(http://www.ihanuri.net/)로 개명하고 ‘하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 내 몸과 같이 사랑한다’는 기치 아래 ‘우리는 하나’라는 뜻의 ‘하누리’가 되었다. 이는 하나님과 내가 그리스도 안에서 하나가 되어 하나님의 뜻을 이루며 사랑으로 세상을 섬기는 지도자가 된다는 의미가 내포돼 있다.

김원동 목사는 “본래 중앙대학교 영문과를 졸업하고 일반 중?고등학교에서 교직생활을 했었다. 그러나 획일적인 한국사회 교육의 문제점을 직시하며 열린 교육으로 전환해야 한다는 생각과 더불어 이제는 그리스도의 정신에 입각한 국제적 인재 양성이 필요하지 않는가는 판단이 들어 2002년 연합교회 교육문화원 추진위원회 발족식에 참여했다. 처음 학교 규모가 크지는 않았지만 1,2,3,4차 필리핀 어학연수가 순차적으로 이뤄지고 오지 선교 또한 활성화되면서 보람을 찾게 되었다”고 들려준다.

무엇보다 하누리국제학교는 일반 초·중·고에 없는 영성교과 프로그램으로 Q·T훈련과 제자훈련, 영성캠프, 선교훈련 등을 개설해 두고 있다. 또한 이와 더불어 자기관리 학습. 리더십교육, 가속학습, 두뇌계발교육, 프로젝트학습이라는 비전교과 프로그램은 물론 동아리 활동과 체험활동을 통해 자주적인 사고방식의 크리스천 지도자를 양성하는데 심혈을 기울이고 있다. 특히 필리핀, 캄보디아, 미국 등에서 이뤄지는 언어연수와 더불어 문학탐방, 직업체험, 여행하기 등은 인성교육에 커다란 도움이 된다. 여기에 원어민 강사를 확보해 지식교과영역을 확대하고 있어 더욱 인기를 얻고 있다.

이곳에서 교육을 받는 학생들은 중학교 1, 2학년이 되면 하누리 체질화 교육을 중심으로 영성학습과 생활학습, 자기 주도적 학습과 가속학습의 기초를 닦는다. 또한 중학교 3학년과 고등학교 1학년은 자기 탐색교육을 받는다. 개인의 적성을 개척하고 집중 탐구를 통해 농촌생활은 물론 오지 경험, 다큐 제작, 영업하기 등의 기획학습에 참여한다. 학생들이 차후에 적응할 사회를 미리 경험하게 하여 생존전략을 터득하게 하는 한편 고등학교 2, 3학년이 되면 미래개척을 통해 원만한 적응을 이룰 수 있도록 교육한다. 그 외 SAT와 TOEFL 등 유학에 필요한 외국어 학습과 시험점수를 확보하고 필요한 지식을 갖추게 돕는다. 자신이 직접 작성한 에세이나 미래자서전, 사회봉사 프로젝트 실적 등과 관련한 포트폴리오를 작성하여 경력을 관리하는데 도움을 준다.

그중 학생들이 가장 선호하는 학습은 오지 탐험과 필리핀, 캄보디아 등의 연수를 통해 누구도 갖지 못한 소중한 경험을 체득하는 일이다. 기도와 성령체험을 통해 필리핀 지역 중 가장 높은 곳에 위치한 오지 마을의 각 가정을 방문하여 복음을 전하는 훈련이 가장 보람된다고 토로한다. 또한 필리핀에서 유일하게 소나무가 가장 잘 자랄 수 있는 곳에 위치한 바기오와 라 트리니다드 지역에서 노방전도를 하는 것은 특별한 추억이 된다. 캠퍼스 사역, 방문사역, 일대일 사역 등 문화행사에 참여하는 한편 필리핀 남쪽 장발레스 지역 안쪽에 위치한 아타족에서 숙식을 해결하는 학생들은 개개인의 능력을 확인할 수 있어 남다른 이력을 확보한다.

김원동 목사는 “처음에는 교회 사역 5가지 콘셉트로 학부모 교육을 먼저 실시했다. 그런데 부모들이 자녀 교육에 대한 바람이 더욱 크다는 것을 알고 학교사역을 병행하게 되었다. 당시 교편을 잡고 있던 나에게 하나님은 불러 주시고 학교 사역에 대한 사명을 주셔서 그것이 지금에 이르게 되었다. 처음에는 유학을 목표로 한 대안학교로 시작했지만 지금은 해외 대학 뿐만 아니라 국내 대학을 진학하는 학생들도 많이 있다”고 소개한다. 이러한 하누리국제학교의 특징은 한국 교육의 전형에서 벗어나 개인맞춤형 주도적인 교육을 하고 있다는 점이다. 그 중 이곳에서 진행하는 프로젝트 수업이 그 좋은 예이다. 여러 명의 학생이 팀을 이루어 다양한 시각에서 바라보고 생각할 수 있게 하여 특히 상처가 많은 아이들의 사고 경직성을 풀고 자발적이며 창의력으로 교육에 임할 수 있도록 돕는다. 또한 스스로 상처를 치유하고 하나님의 자녀로서 합당한 품성을 갖도록 지도한다. 기독교 세계관과 더불어 특별히 미래 자서전을 준비하면서 로드맵을 통해 자신에게 주어진 삶을 진지하게 생각하도록 하며 자신의 미래 자서전이 하나님 앞에 신앙고백이 되도록 하여 크리스천으로서 진정성을 갖게 한다.

Pastor Kim Won-Dong, “Training future Christian leaders with having vision and goal”

There is an open school to educate student to be international that has different programs from other normal public/national/private schools and they are looking for the 21st open education. This school started a united education cultural institute in March 2003 and it next year opened a David reading school in November 2004, which is kind of afterschool program. They are now ‘Hanuri International School’ and have loved since they are training to produce Christian leaders with programs steadily owning the trust from people. Actually, in October 2005, they became ‘Hanuri International School’ (www.ihanuri.net). The name of ‘Hanuri’ means ‘we are the one’ under the slogan that we love God and love our neighbors like our body’. It has another meaning of that we would be leaders who are making God’s will and serve the world with becoming the one in God.

Pastor Kim Won-Dong said, “I studied English literature in Joongang University and taught students in the middle/high school. However, I saw a standardized Korean education system as a problem, and then I thought it had to be changed to be an open education. At the same time, I thought that we need to train students based on the Christianity as international leaders in the future in this time, finally. So, I joined the launching ceremony of a united education cultural institute promotion committee. It was not big in the beginning but as long as the 4 times of language study in Philippines was subsequently made in success and the missionary in the remote areas was activated, I felt it was a worth.”

First of all, ‘Hanuri International School’ has a spirituality program, which other normal schools don’t have it. So, they are Q·T training, student training, spirituality camp and missionary program. Also, they are focusing on making them to be Christian leaders with autonomous thoughts through club activity and experience activity including doing the vision textbook program like self-management learning, leadership training, brain development education, project learning etc. Especially, researching the literature, hands-on experience and travelling including language studies in Philippines, Cambodia and the USA are very helpful to make a good personality. In addition, they have native instructors in order to broaden the knowledge textbook category, so this is popular to students. On the other hand, grade 3 in the middle school and grade 1 in the high school take their own inspection education. They also join the making documentary films, marketing business and experiencing the remote area including living in the countryside by the program to find aptitude and concentration exploratory.

They let the students experience the society that they would go through in advance to know how to make a survival strategy for the future, and on the other hand, they educate them to know how to apply to any circumstances throughout the future development when they are in the 2 and 3 grade in the high school. Besides, they teach them the necessary subjects like SAT and TOEFL for the studying abroad and the knowledge of living in another country. More than that, they help the students build up their portfolio related to their essay, future autobiography or social volunteering project results. In case of students who are living in Ata tribe that is located in Jangballes, South Philippines check their ability there, so they can have very unique resume eventually, but other students go to do campus work, visit work and man-to-man work like cultural work to make their own portfolio.

Pastor Kim Won-Dong, raising good leaders with having spiritual personality, ability and vision

Pastor Kim Won-Dong introduced a school. “In the beginning, we did educate students’ parents with Christian work 5 things. Then, we realized that parents had lots of expectation for their children so, we became to combine the schooling to it. Back then, I was working for the school but I think I had a calling. Now, it made me to work for here with a responsibility. Actually, we started the school for students who wanted to study abroad as an alternative school; however, many students are entering universities in the country not just going to other countries, these days.” The most certain feature of this school is that they are personal autonomous education out of the stereotype in school. For example, there is a project class.

Also, they educate them to have a proper attitude as an offspring of God and try to heal themselves. Pastor Kim Won-Dong who is a principal said, “The goal of ‘Hanuri International School’ is to produce leaders with having spiritual personality, ability and vision. Throughout the leadership affects in a good way, we will fulfill the true of love from God and caring about neighbors. For this, ‘Hanuri International School’ is going to have lots of able native instructors and benchmark other advanced education schools taking an interest. Above all, we will improve the school system and educate them to be students with a clear vision and goal through MOU for entering the major universities.”
