한국산 와인의 우수성, 세계에 알릴 것!

세계적으로 와인의 인기가 식을 줄 모르고 있다. 누가 처음 발명했는지 모를 정도로 오래된 역사를 갖고 있고 최초의 술이라고도 칭하는 와인은 지구상에서 인간이 활동을 하기 시작한 200만년전이라는 추축이 나올 정도로 깊은 유래를 나타내고 있다. 이렇게 오래된 역사를 자랑하는 와인은 어떻게 지금까지도 인간에게 사랑받을 수 있었을까? 그것은 아마 다른 술과는 달리 각종 질병의 치료에 도움이 되기 때문이 아닐까싶다. 이처럼 와인의 관심이 증폭되고 있는 시점에 덩달아 인기를 끌고 있는 것이 바로 한국산 와인이다. 최근 세계육상선수권대회 만찬주, 경주세계문화엑스포 공식 건배주, 세계 물 포럼 환영행사의 만찬주로 선정 된 (주)한국와인의 제품은 세계 속에 한국산 와인의 건재함을 외치며, 파란을 불러일으킬 준비를 하고 있었다.

대한민국 와인산업을 이끌다

(주)한국와인이 위치한 영천시는 현재 마을형, 농가형, 공장형, 교육형 등 다양한 와이너리를 육성해 국내 와인의 메카로 자리매김했다. 영천시가 이처럼 와인의 메카로 자리매김할 수 있었던 이유는 바로 영천의 기후조건이 좋기 때문이다. 예전 천문대가 소재할 만큼 강우량이 적고 일조량이 풍부하다. 또한 내륙지역이지만 천 곳이 넘는 저주지로 인해 수분을 적당하게 유지시킬 수 있는 자연조건이 어우러져 포도재배의 최적지가 되기 때문이다.

이 중 단연 최고의 와인을 생산하는 곳이 바로 (주)한국와인이다. 현재 뱅꼬레 레드 와인, 화이트 와인, 로제 와인, 아이스 와인, 스타베리 오디 와인 등을 선보이며 국내 소비자들에게 한국산 와인 특유의 맛을 전파하고 있다. 특히, 대구가톨릭대학교 지역연고산업육성사업단(RIS)과 공동 개발한 뱅꼬레 스타베리 오디와인은 지난 5월 그랜드하얏트서울호텔에서 열린 ‘제7차 세계 물 포럼 킥오프 회의’ 환영행사에 만찬주로 선보여 이목을 집중시키기도 했다. 이 포럼은 세계물위원회(WWC)주관으로 3년마다 개최되는 지구촌 최대의 물 관련 국제행사로써 세계 각국 정치인들과 물 관련 전문가 200여명, 그리고 서승환 국토부장관, 김범일 대구시장, 김관용 경북도지사 등이 참석하였고 건배 당시 프랑스물연합회의 ‘앙리 베고르’ 회장은 “입맛을 당기게 하는 매력이 있다”고 평해 더욱이 관심을 끌기도 했다.

이처럼 좋은 평가를 받은 뱅꼬레 스타베리 오디 와인은 항산화물질인 안토시아닌이 풍부해 ‘웰빙 술’이라는 별명이 붙을 정도이다. 특히 항암, 항고혈압, 항당뇨, 항염증 및 항노화 성분의 레스베라트롤, 디하이드로퀘세틴 및 루틴이 풍부해 더욱이 건강을 지키기에도 충분하다는 결과가 뒷받침 되고 있다.

국내산 와인을 세계 최고의 와인으로 만들기 위한 노력

하형태 회장은 30여년간 주류 산업에 종사한 술 장인이다. 두산주류 입사 후 경산 마주앙 공장에 지원해 직영 농장에서 포도 품종개발과 품평을 도맡으며, 자연스럽게 와인에 대한 매력에 빠졌고 이 후 와인의 본고장인 프랑스를 비롯한 유럽전역과 호주, 뉴질랜드 등의 다양한 선진 와인 제조 기술을 습득해 현재 (주)한국와인에 다다르게 되었다.

보통 양조용 포도는 씨알이 작지만 하 대표가 사용하는 양조용 품종인 MBA는 알이 굵으면서도 당도가 높다. 또한 주목할 점은 대다수 와이너리에는 검은 포도로 레드와인을, 청포도로 화이트와인을 제조하지만 하 회장은 양조용 MBA 한 가지 품종의 포도로 다양한 종류의 와인을 제조한다는 것이다. 검은 포도의 껍질 색소만 충분히 뽑아내면 레드 와인이 되며, 껍질 색소를 뽑아내지 않고 포도 알맹이를 즙으로 짜면 화이트 와인, 색을 조금만 우려내면 로제 와인을 만들 수 있기 때문이다. 단순해 보이지만 다년간 쌓아온 기술력이 없다면 불가능한 일이기에 더욱 놀라웠다.

또한 하 회장이 개발한 우리나라 최초 ‘아이스와인’은 달콤함 속의 시원함이 조화를 이뤄 더욱 새로운 맛을 느낄 수 있다. ‘아이스와인’ 자체는 그 생산과정이 정교해 쉽게 도전할 수 없음에도 불구하고 하 회장의 오랜 연구 끝에 개발되었다.

정부에서도 와인산업에 대한 관심 늘어날 것!

하형태 회장은 정부차원에서도 농업에 대한 관심을 더욱 늘려야 한다고 전했다. 특히 지방 특색을 살린 특산물에 대한 홍보와 함께 농가를 살려 지역의 색을 뚜렷이 하고 유명상품을 개발해 농업의 새로운 모델을 제시해야 한다는 것이다. 그렇듯 하 회장은 “와인 역시 대한민국 미래 산업에 무궁무진한 역할을 할 수 있는 산업”이라며, “해외에서처럼 제배, 가공, 체험, 관광 등을 연계시켜 더욱 다양한 형태의 문화를 만들면 큰 시너지 효과를 볼 수 있을 것”이라고 전했다. 또한 “한국산 와인은 좋은 맛을 자랑하지만 무분별한 외국산 와인의 수입으로 인해 인정받지 못하고 있는 현실”이라며, “정부에서도 일본처럼 자국민이 먹을 수 있는 환경을 조성해 시장을 확산시켜나가야 한다”고 강조했다. 이 밖에도 하 회장은 “와인 산업은 젊은 층들이 도전해 볼만한 산업이다. 해외와 비교해 보면 아직 초기 단계이기에 발전가능성이 높고 한국산 포도의 질이 우수해 더욱 집중적인 연구를 행한다면 해외 시장에서도 한국산 와인의 우수성을 알릴 수 있기 때문”이라고 전했다.

와인과 함께 꿈꾸며 한평생을 연구해 온 하형태 회장은 “영천을 국내 최고 와인의 메카로 만들고 더욱이 세계 최고의 와인을 생산하는 지역으로 만들기 위해 더욱 노력할 것”이라는 포부를 다짐했다.

Globally, wine is enjoying constant popularity among people. Wine, also called the first alcoholic drink in human history, has such a long history and deep origin as possibly two million years ago when man started activity on earth that no one knows who first invented it. How could it have been possible that the wine with that long history is still loved by man? It is probably because, unlike other drinks, it is helpful in treating every kind of illness. At the time of people’s rising interest in wine like this, Korean-made wine is also winning popularity. Products from Korea Wine, which was selected for a drink in recent IAAF World Championship banquet, Gyeongju World Culture Expo official toast and World Water Forum welcoming-event dinner party, had been ready to write a new chapter for the wind industry insisting on the excellence of Korean wine to the world.

Leads the wine industry of Korea

Yeongchon city where Korea Wind Co., Ltd is located has currently reared diverse wineries for such as village, farmhouse, factory and training to settle as the Mecca of domestic wine. It is the excellent climatic condition of Yeongchon that set the city for the Mecca of wine. The city has such a small precipitation and rich daylight that there once was an observatory there. Besides, despite an inland region, it has over a thousand reservoirs to provide a natural condition for keeping moisture properly, which makes the optimal place for growing grapes.

Of these, Korea Wine Co., Ltd produces by far the best wine. The company is currently is launching VinCoree red wine, white wine, Rose wine, Ice wine, Star berry mulberry wine, etc. and spreading the unique taste of Korean wine to domestic consumers. Especially, the VinCoree star berry mulberry wine developed together with Daegu Catholic University RIS was presented as a banquet drink for the welcoming event of ‘the 7th World Water Forum Kickoff Conference,’ which was held last May at Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel, attracting attention. This forum, the biggest water-related international event in the world held every three years by World Water Council (WWC), was attended by politicians from each country of the world, 200 water specialists, Seo Seung-hwan Minister of Land and Maritime Affairs, Kim Beom-il Daegu mayor, Kim Gwan-yong Gyeongbuk governor, etc. At the time of toast, ‘Henri Begore,’ president of France Water Association commented, “It’s appealing to my palate,” which caused more attention from people.

VinCoree star berry mulberry wine contains so full of anthocyanin, which is antioxidant, that it is nicknamed ‘wellbeing drink.’ Especially containing rich resveratrol, dehydroquercetin and rutin, which are components against cancer, hypertension, diabetes, inflammation and aging, the wine is known to keep one healthy enough by reports.

Efforts to put domestic wine on the top class of the world

President Ha Hyeong-tae is a master at drinks who has engaged in liquor industry for 30 years. After joining Doosan Liquor, he applied to Gyeongsan Majuang factory and naturally became fascinated to wine taking charge of developing the breed of grapes and evaluation on the farm under direct management. Then, he acquired manufacturing technology of diverse advanced wines from the whole Europe including France, the home of wine, Australia, New Zealand, etc. to reach the current state of Korea Wine Co., Ltd.

Usually, grapes for brewing have a small seed but MBA, the brewing breed used by President Ha, has a thick seed and high sugar content. Also to be noted is that while most wineries manufacture red wine with black grapes and white wine with blue grapes, President Ha makes a diversity of wines with a single breed grape of MBA. It is because extracting the rind pigment from black grapes can make red wine, squeezing the grape pulp in juice make white wine, and bringing out the color a bit make Rose wine. Though looking simple, this method was so much amazing because it must be impossible without technology piled up for many years.

Besides, ‘Ice wine’ developed by President Ha for the first time in the nation combines coolness with sweet taste in harmony, giving you a novel kind of taste. ‘Ice wine’ itself is not a thing to easily make challenge on because of its delicate process of production but it was successfully developed as a result of President Ha’s longtime research.

The government will have more interest in wine industry, too.

President Ha said that the government itself should have more interest in farming. He particularly stresses that they should promote special products with local characteristics, enliven the farmhouse to distinguish the local colors, and develop famous products to present a new model of farming. In this relation, President Ha said, “Wine is also the industry that can perform an infinite role for future industries of Korea. Like overseas, connecting growing, processing, experience and tourism, etc. to make culture in ever diverse forms would make a big synergy effect.” Besides, he emphasized, “Though Korean wine is actually boasting of fine taste, the fact is not sufficiently recognized because of the reckless imports of foreign-made wines. Like Japan, the government should make an environment for our people’s consumption in order to keep expanding the market.” Furthermore, President Ha said, “the wine industry is the one our younger generation may well make challenge on. Compared to overseas, it is an initial phase with high possibility for development, and due to the excellent quality of Korean grapes, more intensive research could inform foreign markets of the supremacy of Korean-made wine.”

President Ha, who has been researching on wine for all his life with his dream, clarified his ambition by saying, “I will make more efforts to make Yeongchon the Mecca of domestic wine which will produce the top-class wine in the world.”

The future of Korea’s wine industry looks even brighter with the presence of President Ha Hyung-tae who has devoted himself to making a top-quality wine all the time.
